AVID has developed a system to convert low-grade waste heat generated by stationary generator engines and other industrial process heat sources into valuable electricity to reduce the overall fuel consumption of the system.

The AVID system is being developed in conjunction with the Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) and is entering trial installations in 2017 to 2018.

The AVID eWHR will be a highly compact and modular system that can be installed in modules of 200kW electrical output to almost any stationary power installation including improving the output of combined heat and power systems and biomass power plants. Multiple modules can be installed if sufficient waste heat is available to drive the system. The system has been designed to be modular and scalable.

This builds on AVID’s expertise in high-performance electrical machines and power electronics compact and robust heat exchanger systems and thermal management.

In many Genset applications, AVID is also able to deliver further improvements to the system by reducing the parasitic loads on the system through the intelligent electrification of the engine ancillary systems such as the coolant pump and fans.
