Ryan Maughan, BEng, MSC, CEng, FIMechE, CMgr, MCMI
Ryan founded the AVID Technology Group back in 2004 and has led its growth and development ever since. As well as being an award-winning entrepreneur, he is an Engineer by background with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from UMIST and an MSc in Engineering from the University of Durham. Ryan worked in the motor racing industry in his formative years learning about high performance engineering and developing a unique blend of hands on practical skills with high-level engineering expertise. After a few years of working in a high precision machining business, AVID was born with the mission from the outset to develop new technology that will reduce emissions and fuel consumption of vehicles through improved control.
Andrew Hodgson, MBA, BA
Andrew is a recognised leader in industry and regional economic growth. Following a corporate career in strategic and financial positions during which he held senior positions in the steel and aerospace industries, he has focused on working with investors in operational businesses undergoing significant change. He has held Chief Executive positions in the energy and sub-sea sectors, and has been awarded three Queen’s Awards for Industry. In the regional economic space he joined the North East LEP board in 2011 as vice chair and took over as Chair in 2016. He is a former North East Business Exec of the year and EY Entrepreneur of the Year, and has received an OBE for his work in manufacturing.
Keith Ternent, MSc, MIET
Keith is an experienced engineering professional with a passion for the automotive sector and a background in electronics manufacturing. Keith is responsible for managing and developing the Engineering Team to ensure that products and new applications are engineered to AVID’s demanding standards. Keith began his career in PCB manufacturing and electronics assembly and then moved to a major Tier 1 automotive supplier where he was Director of Advanced Manufacturing. Keith joined AVID running the engineering team and is now responsible for engineering products and some of the most advanced electric and hybrid vehicle prototypes of their time.
Iain Young, HND, MBA
Iain started as an electronics engineer with a background in hardware development and manufacturing for the automotive and off-highway markets. He primarily worked in the power electronics, motors and controls industry for technology-leading, blue-chip businesses including Johnson Electric and Sevcon and has over 25 years’ experience on an International basis. He brings a wealth of engineering and commercial experience to AVID having very successfully developed and grown business pipelines in high growth markets where technology innovation and differentiation are truly valued. Iain is responsible for leading the development of new OEM business for AVID with a clear focus on Automotive, On-Highway, and Off-Highway market segments and ensuring we provide the highest level of project support to our customers.
Graeme Cook, B.Eng (Hons)
Graeme is an experienced Operations Director with expertise in the aerospace, automotive and energy sectors. Graeme completed a multi-skilled apprenticeship, progressing to complete a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering and quickly moving into leadership roles. Since starting his career as an Engineer at Wilkinson Sword, Graeme has worked for Freudenberg Group, NSK Steering Systems Europe, CAV Aerospace, and Responsive Engineering, part of the Reece Groip, holding a number of multi-site roles in and Regional and Managing Director positions. Starting in 2019, Graeme joined the AVID team to further develop the company’s growth, uphold AVID’s status as a low-risk end-to-end technical solutions provider, and maintain a consistent high level of customer satisfaction.
Mike Dowsett, B.Eng (Hons)
Mike is an engineering professional, who has been a leader in the automotive industry for his entire career. Mike is a customer-facing technical sales and business development executive focusing on electrification. Previously a Senior Engineering Manager, responsible for large global teams of engineers designing & developing electrification components & integrated powertrain systems for automotive & commercial vehicles. Mikes specialisation is in Electric Motors and Inverters, along with efficient electrification system design.Mike started his career at Ford Motor Company and has worked for Visteon Corp, FEV, Controlled Power Technologies, YASA Motors and Sevcon.
Mauro qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG before joining NVM in 2004 as financial controller, responsible for the financial management of the NVM funds. In 2008, he moved to the investment team and now is the NVM partner responsible for investment activity in the North East and Yorkshire transacting deals and working with portfolio companies.
